About me

My name is Rodrigo Ventura, I am currently Assistant Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, and member of Institute for Systems and Robotics, in Lisbon, Portugal. I divide my work among research activities, supervising postgraduate theses, and teaching undergraduate courses in several engineering degrees.

In this page you will find detailed information concerning these activities, among other topics that interest me. Hope you find these pages interesting. Feel free to send me feedback.

Research

My main areas of research are Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. In particular, I have been actively conducting research on these topics:

  • Cognitive architectures — biologically inspired research for developing robot cognitive architectures
  • Field robotics — robots for unstructured and dynamic environments, such as in search and rescue operations
  • Human-robot interaction — making robots more usable by real people: operating them and interacting with them
  • Automatic karyotyping — automating biomedical procedures, helping medical staff in, e.g., leukemia diagnosis
  • Automatic music transcription and search — music search engine using human whistling as cue

Check in the Research pages in this site for further details.
