Victor A. N. Barroso was born in Lisbon, Portugal, on December 22, 1952. He received the E.E. degree in 1976 and the Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1990, both from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal.
In 1976, he joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at IST. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1990 and to Associate Professor in 1994. He has taught courses in systems and signal thory, control systems, signal and array processing, computer networks and communications.
Since 1976, he was a researcher at CAPS - Centre of Signal Analysis and Processing, IST. In 1992, he joined the research team of the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR). Presently, he is the head of the ISR's Signal Processing Group. His research interest are in the general area of statistical signal and array processing, particularily on its applications on radio and underwater acoustics wireless communications. He has over 60 published technical contributions.
Dr. Barroso was a technical Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing from 1996 to 1999, and a technical committee member of the IEEE V International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems (ICECS’98). He is affiliated with several IEEE societies.
